A current craze on YouTube is a proliferation of car detailing channels. The 30-minute episodes often reach millions of views. Hosts take the most disgusting cars they can find and go through them, scouring away years of filth and lack of care.
It’s common for the hosts to remove seats and trim pieces to make sure the results are the very best possible. Even center consoles and door panels are fair game to make the interiors shine.
Let’s turn this to us. What about our “ride,” and we’re not talking about the car we drive. Our physical body, the one we use for transportation through everything we do each day, to what extent are we willing to go to ensure it’s cleaned up for Christ?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says:
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
One YouTube host, Mitch of The Detail Geek, with half-a-million subscribers, often describes which services his clients have requested. Those are the cleaning details he focuses on, and then Mitch always does a little bit more just to ensure his clients are satisfied.
The passage in 1 Corinthians says we are to glorify God in our bodies. What does that mean?
- Whatever you eat or drink … 1 Corinthians 10:21.
- Flee sexual immorality … 1 Corinthians 6:18.
- Count death as the next step in our walk of faith … Philippians 1:20-21.
We are to detail our bodies as well as Mitch does his cars. We are to focus on God’s requirements then do a little bit more to ensure God is satisfied.
When we’re all about Christ, we’ll find it’s easy to live like him.
