Go ahead and wring your hands.
Soak a tissue, wail a while, and get it out of your system.
Now, name all the evils that are about to overcome you, even make a list if you want.
Once you’re finished, set all that aside and GET HAPPY!
That’s right, put a smile on your face and say cheerful things. Go do something joyful, like take a walk in the summer rain or bake cookies for your neighbor and smile when you hand them over the fence.
Proverbs 15:30 in the New Living Translation gives us 2 Reasons to Toss Out Worry.
“A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health.”
That’s good news, a report we want to hear. However, let’s not skim this verse too quickly. Let’s look a little more closely.
Here’s our 1st Reason to Toss Out Worry:
“A cheerful look brings joy to the heart.”
Note what this doesn’t say. A cheerful heart doesn’t bring joy to the face. Our outward expression is where our joy begins. When we smile and say positive things, we will find joy growing inside.
Next, we read our 2nd Reason to Toss Out Worry:
“Good news makes for good health.”
Did that soak in? When we search out and listen to the good things going on around us, we will be healthier with fewer doctor visits, better than an apple a day.
Are you excited, yet? What we choose to do and how we act can bring us joy and good health.
So, here’s the plan. Now that we’ve soaked our tissue and made our list of bad things, let’s toss them and put a smile on our face, even if we don’t feel it. We will, in time, and we’ll get joy and good health along the way.
It’s time to move past our troubles and into the joy of the Lord.
