Elijah is the storied prophet of the Old Testament.

He was sent to Israel to lead God’s people out of corruption and suffering.

Fact No. 1:

God trusted Elijah with control over the weather.

1 Kings 17:1 tells us:

“Now Elijah … said to Ahab, ‘As the Lord, the God of Israel, ... before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.’ ”

Fact No. 2:

Elijah commanded a pot to not run out of food until the rains came.

1 Kings 17:16 tells us:

“The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.”

Fact No. 3:

Elijah brought a child back to life by breathing on him.

1 Kings 17:22 tells us:

“And the Lord listened to the voice of Elijah. And the life of the child came into him again, and he revived.”

Fact No. 4:

Elijah faced off 450 false prophets with fire from heaven.

1 Kings 18:21-22, 38 tells us:

“And Elijah came near to all the people and said, ‘… If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.’ … Then Elijah said to the people, ‘I, even I only, am left a prophet of the Lord, but Baal's prophets are 450 men.’ … Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering …”

Fact No. 5:

Elijah never died; he rode a whirlwind into heaven.

2 Kings 2:11 tells us:

“And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.”

Fact No. 6:

The angel of the Lord compared John the Baptist to Elijah.

Luke 1:17 tells us:

“And [John] will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.”

Fact No. 7:

James modeled Elijah as one of the greatest prayer warriors of all time.

James 5:17 tells us:

“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.”

We can do worse than to emulate Elijah in our Christian walk. There’s only one way we can do better.

Model our lives after Christ, our Savior.

We become today’s warriors for Christ when we live like God’s champions of old.
