Maxing Out Our Jesus Quotient

English Audio Version

We need to start off by looking at today’s title.

Maxing out … our Jesus … quotient. Each part of this five-word title has a specific and vital meaning in today’s teaching.

Maxing out. What meaning can we pull from this? First, we need to look at the origin of maxing. It comes from maximum, which Merriam-Webster says is the upper limit allowed, or the greatest quantity.

In other words, we want as much as possible. We want to stretch the limits, push the boundaries, and swell the coffers to overflowing.

Our Jesus. This sounds simple, but don’t skip over these words too quickly. What is Jesus to us? We must make a life-changing commitment to better ourselves through studying the example Jesus lived and copying his loving attitude toward people.

In other words, we must dump our old ways of thinking and behaving and let Jesus take over every part of who we are.

Quotient. This is a math term, a result of dividing two numbers. Merriam-Webster says it’s also a portion, a share, or how much of something we have.

In other words, we must be reduced, and Jesus must be increased in everything we do. Jesus is our gold standard for how to live.

John 15:11 says it beautifully.

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”

When we study the Bible, learn God’s nature, and begin to model ourselves after Jesus, God will find his joy in us, and we will find our joy in him.

We will max out our Jesus quotient and become the best we can be.

Jesus is our example, and we are to become like him.
