Perception is ninety percent of who we are.
If people think we’re courteous, we probably are.
If our lawn is green and our car shiny, we are considered prosperous. We can only do those things if we have money to spare.
If we walk and talk like a church member, we must be a Christian.
Yet it’s possible to say kind words to people we don’t care for, even as we cringe inside. That green lawn? Perhaps the water bill is draining our budget more than we can afford.
And to think about our car … can anyone see how close we are to having it repossessed?
Then there’s our church face. Is it possible to wear it all week long?
Here’s what this is about: We can appear one way, and the reality can be totally different … two sides of a coin, or a welcome sign that says on the reverse, Come Back and See Us.
We need to be as we appear to be, honest in how we deal with others, and in line with the reality of who we are.
Here are 2 Smart Things to Consider when trying to live like Christ.
Proverbs 25:23 tells us we water our relationships with how we interact with people.
“The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.”
We must use our words wisely if we want to draw people to the cross.
Psalm 34:13 tells us to let honesty and consideration be our guide for living with those around us.
“Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.”
Gossip? Banished to the cold. False versions of events? Wiped from our lips. We must treat people as we want to be treated.
Our actions are the mirrors of our hearts. What we are inside will come out in our words and the way we treat the people we meet. Let’s let the grace of God reveal itself in every moment of every day.
Jesus is the mirror we want to reflect unto the world.
