The Wizard of Oz Hollywood classic is about uncovering what you already have.
It’s about accepting who you are, finding your strength inside of you, and realizing that you don’t need to travel the world searching for satisfaction.
It’s right where you are. We need to slow down and rediscover what we already have.
The Cowardly Lion is one of the most beloved of the show’s characters. He’s frightened of his own tail, and he runs and hides at every opportunity.
Yet, when he meets the Wizard, he learns his courage was inside him all along. He didn’t have to complete a heroic challenge to prove his bravery. It was already in his heart.
Psalm 27:14 tells us we are like the Cowardly Lion.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
God gives us three standout challenges to becoming the mighty warrior he sees in us.
1. Wait for the Lord.
We must quit jumping the gun. Give God time to work. His timetable isn’t ours. We learn his holy nature when we spend time in prayer.
2. Be strong.
Quit giving in to sin. Toss it out. Say no and mean it. Just kick temptation out the door.
3. Let your heart take courage.
Find what you already have. You are stronger than you know. How do we know that? God’s Word says so.
Then the verse repeats the most vital part of God’s instruction.
1. Wait for the Lord.
How do we wait for the Lord? In prayer and in study of God’s Word.
Let’s shuck the fear and become the King of the Spiritual Jungle.
