Tossing Out Our Lazy Bone

English Audio Version

Everyone has a lazy bone.

You know what I mean, that occasional desire to sleep in, or the Saturday afternoon we look at the yard and say, “Not today. The grass isn’t that long.”

Sometimes we want to skip the backyard ball game, let the office report slide, and file an extension for our taxes.

Later, we cry. I want to be lazy!

That’s good and well occasionally. It’s good for us to take an afternoon off.

Did you get that? An afternoon off is great, because we can catch up afterward. What we must avoid is letting a pattern of laziness creep into our lifestyle.

Here are three ways we can toss out our lazy bone.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 says we must keep our hands busy so that we have provisions for living well.

“… Aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.”

Romans 12:11 tells us our enthusiasm is the key to upholding God’s standard.

“Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.”

Proverbs 28:19 is our assurance that our focus on hard work will bring us to a good end.

“Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.”

The riches of the world don’t flow into our pockets simply because we’ve accepted Christ as our Savior. We can’t kick back and say, “I’m here, Jesus. Make my life good.” We’re expected to do our part every single day.

When we’re on the ball for Jesus, our life will shine with his love and blessings.
