The Riches of Heaven

English Audio Version

Receiving an inheritance is a privilege, not a right.

We imagine the riches of the wealthy flowing unimpeded into the bank accounts of their children, but there are times it doesn’t happen that way.

Warren Buffet and Bill Gates have famously said their vast fortunes are going to charity.

Mark Zuckerburg has promised to give 99 percent of his Facebook fortune ($45 billion in 2017) to cure disease and build strong communities around the world.

What about the bad stuff? Can parents bequeath that?

Certainly. Abuse runs in families. So do health problems and poverty.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 tells us:

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [wayward] men, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

We inherit what we earn. When we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, we’ll be gifted with the same level of rewards he received.

If we chase after the world, bad things will be our constant companions. We will inherit what we sow.

If we’re focused on Christ, the riches of heaven will be ours for the taking.
