Getting Busy for God

What are our years on the earth?

Threescore and ten, or so it goes (Psalm 90:10). We’re promised seventy years, then poof, and we check out.

We don’t all get our full seventy, sad to say. A few get more, but most are gone before that promised moment comes around.

It’s time to get busy for God.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 says God will fill our days with life and blessing.

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Joshua 1:7 tells us we will find success if we keep our eyes on Christ.

“Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.”

Ecclesiastes 9:10 encourages us to work now, for in death, there’s no opportunity to catch up on what we didn’t complete.

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol (Death), to which you are going.”

Micah 6:8 gives us our checklist: do justice; love kindness; and walk humbly.

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Matthew 24:44-46 prompts us to be ready for the coming return of Jesus for his own.

“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.”

How many of our seventy years are gone? The clock is ticking. Let’s focus on Christ and his directives. Let’s work for him like there’s no tomorrow, because there’s the chance there won’t be.

When we live our life wisely, every day will be filled with Christ, our Lord.
