A job description is something every new employee hopes for. It tells us just what our duties are, and we can ensure our performance is up to snuff.
It’s when we have no specified assignments that misunderstandings begin to occur. We do what we think is needed only to discover it’s not what the boss wanted. Disaster!
Government rules and regulations are the same. If they aren’t spelled out clearly, not everyone will know how to fit the bill. People will go their own way, and they may wind up in hot water over their choices.
As Christians, God has spelled out the rules for righteous living. We call it the Bible. It teaches us by example and specific rules. We read the nature of God in how he interacts with his creation, and we reveal the lives of the Saints and learn how they dealt with life’s traumatic events.
We learn to be Christians by becoming immersed in the Word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16 says every word of the Bible is beneficial for the Christian. We need to study it from cover to cover.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
Psalm 119:105 paints a picture of light, for that’s what the Bible is to us. It illuminates where we should go and how we should live, and offers spirit-instructed ways to interact with the people we spend time with each day.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:11 assures us that if we truly understand and rely on the Word of God, it will give us the strength to walk blamelessly with God.
“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
We don’t have to question how to live like Christ. It’s in the Word of God. We need to read about him, and we’ll unravel the mysteries of Christ and his love for us.
Christ lights our way the more we learn about him.
