Celebrate!

For many people, the final day of the year is a time to gather with friends to await the beginning of the New Year. In Canada, people attend large celebrations with concerts, sporting events, and fireworks. In Mexico, a list of all the bad things from the previous year is thrown in a fire, and there are parties all across the country. In the United States, the “ball drop” is held in Times Square.

Each of these customs is for one reason and one reason only. People want to celebrate the end of the old year and the fresh beginning that waits at the midnight hour.

Leviticus 23:32 and then in Verse 41 tell us that we are to celebrate the day of the Lord. We are to plan feasts and great parties, and we are to worship the God of all creation.

Isaiah 38:13 gives us even greater reason to celebrate the day of the Lord. One day we will pass from this life, and when we are gone, we cannot raise our voices in celebration to the God of all creation. If we are to praise him, we must do so now.

So, let’s party! Let’s gather with our Christian brothers and sisters, and let’s celebrate the end of the old year. Let’s hold hands and sing as that Waterford crystal ball sinks to the roof of One Times Square. Let’s thank God for his hand of blessings, and let’s prepare our hearts for another year in his service.

When we celebrate God, we raise our voices in jubilation to the most worthy one there is.

When we party for Jesus, we are where the party is at. No other celebration comes close.

Excerpt of the Day

When Jesus comes to us, we must be ready to respond to him in the moment of his passing.
