Holiday Name-Calling

Nicknames, whether good or bad, can stick with us through our entire lives.

Litle Bit. Nate-Nate. Whitey. And then there are the ones we don’t enjoy …

What about our Christmas nicknames? Are they ones we’re proud to hear?

Frosty Frank

Twinkling Teresa

Silver Santa

Nutty Noel

Gingerbread Gina

Happy Holly

Let’s look at the nicknames given Jesus upon his birth at Christmas.

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We read of them in Isaiah 9:6:

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Frosty Frank only speaks when spoken to.

Twinkling Teresa has a bright word of encouragement for everyone.

Silver Santa is our white-headed grandpa.

Nutty Noel, always pulling holiday pranks.

Gingerbread Gina, the master of the desert table.

Happy Holly is the trusted smile in every situation.

Jesus, a friend to us, the God of creation, the trusted protector, the one who calms the waters when life seems to collapse around us.

Let’s get on with it. Remind Jesus that you know him well enough to call him by his nicknames. He’s earned each one of them.
