Imagine a world where people speak with flowers. They open their mouths, and butterflies flutter forth. They whisper to you in gumdrops, and when they smile, they glow with the colors of the sunrise.
Nah, you think. That’s a pipe dream. No one lives in a world like that. Maybe Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland. But in the real world? Nah, not happening.
Yet, we can be that person. We speak, and the air around us is filled with the aroma of roses. Every word is like candy, sweet to hear and a delight to experience. Our very expression can light up the day of those around us … still sound impossible? Like a fantasy world? As though someone lives in a dream world as they tumble down a rabbit hole of impossibilities?
Here’s what God says in Psalm 111:2:
“How amazing are the deeds of the Lord! All who delight in him should ponder them.” NLT
First, let’s look at the last phrase in this verse. Well, at one word specifically.
Ponder.
If we define the word, we learn it means to think on. To dwell on. To keep constantly in our thoughts.
Here’s something else. What we think on, we speak on. Good things or bad, if it’s in our thoughts, it eventually comes out in our speech.
Psalm 145:5 reinforces this:
“I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.” NLT
So, what will our words sound like if we constantly think on the good deeds the Lord has done for us?
Keep a record. List the times God answers your prayers. Even the little things. Reread them frequently. Close your eyes and remember how it felt when you experienced God’s presence.
“All who delight in him should ponder them,” and “I will meditate on your … splendor.”
That’s from the Word. It’s an instruction, something God expects from us. When we do, we will speak with flowers, butterflies will flutter from our lips, we will whisper in gumdrop goodness, and we will glow with the beauty of the sunrise.
God is our source of goodness. When we think on him, we will speak of him. Let’s keep him in our thoughts each day so that we are constantly encouraged to share his love with others.
