What’s in your basket of blessings?
Grandchildren?
A pastor you’ve bonded with?
A vacation home in the mountains?
Good health, a spouse, even a job you enjoy …
Amos 8:1 tells us:
“Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.”
That sounds warm and inviting, but this is the book of Amos we’re reading from. The lesson here is that when God blesses us, we can’t take his blessing for granted.
Show your grandchild they are treasured by you. A day at the zoo, a visit to a special restaurant, a weekend ski trip … something they will remember as special. Then, do it again, and again.
You can write your pastor a check, but offer him (or her) the use of your vacation home. Even better, pay for the plane ticket to get him and his family there.
Your health, your spouse, your job … let God know you are grateful, then let your spouse know, let your boss know …
Amos tells us in this chapter of the blessing God bestowed on Israel. He also tells us of Israel’s carelessness in abusing God’s blessing. Then he tells how God will take it all away.
A grateful heart. A prayer of thanksgiving to God. Letting the people around us know how blessed we are that they are part of our lives.
Now you’re seeing it. Let’s get on board and rejoice in God’s blessing.
