Hands Raised in Joyous Adoration

English Audio Version

Think about it.

How do we express excitement?

Those of us with children will remember them sitting on their hands to keep from telling a secret. The excitement of the impending revelation was almost too much to contain.

Why sitting on their hands? That’s where our excitement comes out. It’s why an enthusiastic round of applause fills a stadium after a great play, flows across an auditorium when an award is given, and brings a smile to a child’s face when they’ve done something well.

Our hands are our connection to our appreciation meter in our brain. When we feel happy or joyous, our hands go into action.

What better thing to be excited about than the celebration of the birth of Christ the King?

2 Corinthians 9:15 gives us our reason to applaud.

“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!”

His gift of Jesus to the world should make us want to jump and shout! Here’s how to do it.

  • Clap your hands! Lots of times!
  • Punch the air! Higher, higher!
  • Find an old-fashion tambourine! Shake and rattle it!
  • Hold a candle overhead! Wave it heavenward!
  • Join a crowd! Do a hand wave up and down, then again!
  • Lift a flag! Set it to fluttering against the sky!

Our hands reveal our heart. When we are thankful for the gift God’s given us, our praise unto him will come out.

Jesus is the reason for our joy, and we lift our hands to reveal our love for him.

We already know the end of the story. Jesus rules, and the devil drools.
