A birthday party is a time to smile and be happy.
We have every reason to expect an excellent time: friends, good food, and presents in the end.
Who wouldn’t want to attend a birthday celebration?
We want to give the best birthday presents to our favorite people, those who are delighted when we come around, and who tell us how much they love us.
Psalm 37:4 says it works the same way with God.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
It’s like hugging the birthday boy and having him bring us a second slice of cake. He delights in our presence, and he wants to do something to show how much he loves us.
God feels the same about us. When he senses our joy in his presence, and he hears our praise unto him, his emotions get involved, and he wants to do something to express his love for us.
He gives us the desires of our heart. He offers us a second slice of cake. He reaches down his hand and takes ours, and he leads us into the blessings he wishes to shower upon us.
All he wants is for us to delight in him, to find joy in his presence, and to be grateful for what he’s done for us.
God finds as much joy in us as we find in him, and he showers us with his love.
