Let’s plan a celebration.
You read that right, a party. Perhaps with balloons and streamers. Or maybe around the barbecue, with steaks and burgers for everyone.
We invite our guests to enjoy to the fullest. Have two burgers, another slice of dessert, and don’t hold back on enjoyment. Indulge until it’s all gone.
We want our festivities to be complete, for what we’ve provided to be consumed, with only empty plates, full stomachs, and good memories left for people to take home.
Then we go to church and leave our wallet in the car. We write the smallest check possible. We claim Sunday mornings as our time to relax, and we let someone else sing in the choir.
We need to be used up in celebration unto the Lord. All of us. Our bank accounts, our families, our vacation time. We need to offer everything, with only good memories left for us to take home.
Leviticus 27:28 reveals the attitude toward our possessions that God expects of us:
“Notwithstanding no [loved] thing, that a man shall [offer up] unto the Lord of all that he has, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the Lord.”
What we give to God, we let go of. We release it to him, with no strings attached. It becomes his to be consumed in the worship of our God and King. What’s given unto the church, the mission program, or the minister is no longer ours. It becomes God’s property, even our bank accounts, our families, and our vacation time.
We want God to enjoy us to the fullest, to indulge in our love until we’re consumed in him.
Life is a celebration unto our God. Let’s use ourselves up in worship unto him.
