Running with Jesus

We look forward to spring.

It’s a time of sunshine, warmth, renewed life, and brighter tomorrows.

Part of it is simply getting outdoors. We visit the park, the grass is freshly green, and we can run with abandon, soaking it all in. Children chase each other, we toss balls to our dogs, and birds chatter cheerfully in the trees.

Who wouldn’t want to run in the park on a bright spring day? It’s a renewal of self, of life, of all the things we need to make us happy. It’s a way of recharging after a winter of being indoors.

Drawing close to God is like finding ourselves in the park on a beautiful afternoon. We want to throw our arms in the air and run with abandon toward him.

John 4:24 says:

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Whoo-whoo! Let’s lift our arms toward the sunshine!

Romans 3:23 tells us:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Wahoo! That was then, but it’s us no longer!

John 3:16 shows us the sunshine of his love:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Glory! Spring has arrived, and we can soak up his warmth!

John 1:1 warms our faces:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Whoop! Whoop! God’s been there all along!

Revelation 1:17-18 says our spring day in the park shall never end:

“Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.”

Frisbee time! Jesus is in total control!

Titus 2:13 assures us our Lord will join us:

“[We are] waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Break out the fried chicken! We’re about to feast!

John 14:6 is our park day agenda:

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ ”

All right! Let’s get with the program!

John 1:3 says the entire park is the domain of Christ:

“All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

Hot dog! All of creation is ours to play in all day long!

When we run with Jesus, it’s springtime all the time. He is the sunshine that gives us life, filling us with the warmth of his love.

Excerpt of the Day

Our truth is found in Jesus, for he is the one that lifts us out of the condition of our humanity.
