Take a cup.
Any cup, with or without a handle, one that holds water.
Fill it up. Then add a little more, until the liquid is at the top. Let the surface tension of the water hold it in as the water bulges over the rim yet doesn’t overflow.
Finally, one last drop, and the water will spill over, flooding the countertop, and going everywhere.
That’s what Christ does in our lives. He fills us up, more and more, and if we remain steady in him, that final drop will cause us to spill Christ all over everything and everyone around us. Christ will go everywhere.
Revelation 1:8 tells us:
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
There is no lack in God. He knows no restrictions. He’s not limited by our checking account, our education, or our family connections. When he flows into us, he’s drawing from the resources of all creation, for it’s all his.
Psalm 89:6 reveals his wonder:
“For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?”
We are weak, but he is filled with wonder and glory. We doubt his favor in our lives, but he desires to love us. We battle with the tumultuous trials of day-to-day living, and all the while, he is with us.
Zephaniah 3:17 reminds us:
“The Lord your God in the midst of you is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over you with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over you with singing.”
Our great God didn’t only create us, he takes joy in his children. He sings over us. He looks down on us, and he throws a party for us, inviting the heavenly host to join in, simply because he can.
We are a cup, waiting to be filled. Christ came so that he could overflow from us onto those around us. Let’s get ready for more of him than we can possibly contain.
When we lift our hands in praise, the gates of heaven will release the Father’s blessing on our lives.
