Winter might seem cold and bleak to some, but in reality, the strength found in this frigid season can give us inspiration. The wind that sweeps across the land can still every human action, force all nature to a standstill, and crush those whom it would crush. Our God is the same. He sweeps across the world, doing as he will. We have no choice but to bow before our WINTRY God.
Let’s take a moment to look at our WINTRY God:
W – He is the one in WHOM we can put our faith and our trust.
Isaiah 37:10 opens with a word from Sennacherib to Hezekiah, king of Judah, laughing at the idea that God is a deity in WHOM Judah can place her trust. At this point in Judah’s history, Assyria had taken down nation after nation. However, Isaiah reassures Hezekiah in Verse 21 that God is indeed the one in WHOM Judah can place her trust, for he will protect her against the Assyrians.
When we face impossible odds, we cannot afford to listen to the enemy. Rather, we place our faith in God, for it is in him that we are victorious.
I – He is the INSPIRATION that brings truth to life.
2 Timothy 3:16 reasserts a primary facet of God’s eternal nature. All good things come from him, and all that comes from him is good. In this verse, Paul exhorts Timothy that all Scripture is given by INSPIRATION of God, and that we can use God’s words for reproof, correction, and for instruction.
When we find ourselves searching for truth in the morass of a sinful world, all we need to do is turn to the Word of God. There we will find the highest truths, the most trustworthy facts, and the rulers with which we can measure our existence.
N – He is the NET that draws all good things unto us.
Luke 5:4 rings with the words of Jesus, where he tells Simon to let down his NET into the deeps. Simon is tired, and he doesn’t want to do this difficult thing, but he gives in. When the net goes down, a great multitude of fishes fill the net.
Jesus comes to us at the times when we’ve exhausted our resources, and our nets are empty. However, Jesus tells us to let down his NET, and he will fill it to overflowing with the abundance of his love.
T – He is the TESTAMENT of his truth before the world.
In 1 John 5:9, the Scriptures compare the witness of man with the witness of God. There is no comparison. We can believe what man says, but the truth is found in Jesus, for he is God’s TESTAMENT to all the world. He is the Truth that we can trust.
The world will doubt the deity of the Christ, but if we keep our eyes on him, we will see the truth. Jesus is the one he claimed to be.
R – He is the REVEALER of the hidden things of creation.
Daniel 2:47 gives us the moment of Nebuchadnezzar’s most important revelation of his reign. He falls to his feet and worships Daniel, for God has given Daniel the meaning of the king’s dream. Even the kings of this earth will realize that God is the mighty REVEALER of dreams of things that no other person could know.
When we face situations we don’t understand, we can place them in the Father’s hands. He will give us truth and understanding, for he cares for his children.
Y – He is the Lord YOUR God.
Leviticus 18:30 speaks the words of the Lord directly unto Moses. After giving a list of statues the children of Israel were to follow, the Lord seals his words with this phrase: I am the Lord YOUR God.
When we are called by the Father, his precepts become ours. We agree to honor his calling, and we let him have command of all that we are. He becomes the Lord our God.
There is no other God to whom we can pray. Jehovah is our strength and our shield.
