The Compelling Nature of Christ

English Audio Version

Jesus had an affinity for people who were marginalized by the society of his day.

The blind, lepers, the lame, they were important to him.

He also reached out to those outside Jewish cultural and religious boundaries, such as the Samaritans and Canaanites.

He healed Peter’s mother-in-law and a woman suffering from a hemorrhage, and he invited the children, a group often pushed aside or ignored, to gather around him, for he knew the importance of reaching out to those who would one day guide the affairs of the world.

Jesus described his body and his blood as the covenant of salvation at the Last Supper.

Then, upon the cross, he followed through.

John 10:18 gives his dedication to the salvation of all humanity:

"No one takes it [my life] from me, but I lay it down of my own accord."

He allowed nothing to shift him from God’s plan to bring salvation to humanity.

As an example of his humility and willingness to live out the plan of God for his life, Jesus knelt to wash the feet of each of his disciples.

He did the simple thing that seemed abhorrent to his followers but one that he knew would make a soul-searing impact upon them when they remembered his life with them.

His example would compel them to treat each other with compassion and grace, for Jesus had lived it out before them.

How are you compelling others forward in Christ?

Let's live our lives in a way that people will feel the love of Jesus through us.
