It helps to know what a job entails when we show up at the employment office.
Are we good at computer skills? Maybe that construction job isn’t for us.
Maybe we work best alone. Don’t even think about working the front desk. We’ll be overwhelmed.
What skills does God require for us to join his team? You know, to become a Christian.
A teacher? Do we need the skills to stand in front of a Sunday school class?
Or broadcasting skills? You know, if God wants us to be a televangelist.
A musical skill would surely help. Isn’t that part of the Christian experience, singing or playing an instrument on the platform?
Here’s what our Lord tells us in John 6:28-29:
“Then they said to him, ‘What must we do, to be doing the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.’ ”
The question was from a great crowd at Capernaum seeking Jesus, and they wanted to do something for the Kingdom. What can we do? Anything you need, they said. Just let us know your job requirements.
Jesus’ reply? So simple. He said, “Believe in him whom [God] has sent.”
That’s it. Easy-smeasy. Nothing else required.
Of course, as with any job, we must show up every day, be diligent in applying ourselves to the job, and earn a return for our employer.
But back to basics. If you believe, YOU’RE HIRED!
Your job opening as a Christian is waiting. Come on board today.
