Planning Our Retirement

English Audio Version

Retirement.

It’s an old person thing, right? Gray hair, a thickening middle, bi-focal lens in our reading glasses.

Where do we want to build our retirement home? In the mountains? On the beach? Near a thriving city?

When we see the lines in our forehead, we start saving. Pay off the mortgage! Make sure our will is filed! Join AARP! We want those senior discounts.

We’re already planning where we want to go on our first retirement cruise.

We spend so much time planning our retirement, but do we ever think that one day we’ll retire spiritually? Have we considered our spiritual retirement?

Revelation 21:8 says:

“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Ouch! No one wants to retire in Death Valley, the middle of the Sahara, or a psycho ward.

Let’s plan our retirement with Jesus.

Luke 23:43 says:

“And he said to him, ‘Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.’ ”

Planning for our retirement starts when we are young. Bank a little, bank a little, bank a little, and suddenly, we have sufficient money in our account.

The Bible says to train up a child when he is small . . .

Now’s our time to plan for our spiritual retirement. Salvation is the first step. Let’s begin now.

Excerpt of the Day

We already know the end of the story. Jesus rules, and the devil drools.
