Verifying Our Heavenly Passport

English Audio Version

How can we know we’ll make heaven?

That’s a very real question, one that’s argued by Christians all the time.

  • You, well, I saw you with a cigarette in your hand. I don’t expect you’ll be standing at Jesus’ side.
  • Did I hear a bad word coming out of your mouth? Well, we can tell you’ve been faking your relationship with the Lord.
  • Not been fully baptized, as in immersed? What will Jesus say? Shame on you.
  • How short is your skirt? What about your neckline? And you wear makeup and swim in the pool with the opposite gender?
  • I wouldn’t want to be you once you cross to the other side.

The verification for our heavenly passport doesn’t depend on what we think. It comes in what the Bible has to say.

Galatians 5:24 says:

“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

It’s that simple? Yes, exactly that simple. Now let’s see what this verse means.

Merriam-Webster says passions are intense, overpowering emotions. If we’re not in control, we don’t belong to Christ.

Then Merriam-Webster tells us desires are things that promise enjoyment or satisfaction. If it’s material things that make us happy, we don’t belong to Christ.

Ouch. That’s not so simple, not to live that way, anyway. How can we make this change so that our heavenly passport is valid?

  1. Prayer.
  2. Time in the Word.
  3. A commitment to living a life that exemplifies the standards of Christ.

When it comes time, let’s make certain our heavenly passport is stamped by our salvation through Jesus’ blood.
