Perfection in a Christmas tree comes in our final touch, one that finishes off the love and care we’ve put into it.
We start with pulling the boxes from the attic. Anticipation fills us. We look forward to remembered ornaments, the strands of sparkling lights, and tons of glittering ribbon.
It’s a magical time, a chance for love to fill every nook and cranny of our living room, and we can hardly wait.
Assembling the components of our tree takes work, but we don’t mind. The dream drives us to put aside other (often important) things to lift the magic one ornament at a time, one string of lights at a time, one ribbon at a time.
We stand back and enjoy the glow with barely contained eagerness. It’s not finished yet. We’ve saved the Christmas star, the topper to our beautiful creation, until the very end. That’s when our tree will shine with the true measure of the season.
God sees Christmas in the same way. He assembled his Christmas gift to humanity long ago with anticipation for what it would someday become.
Acts 5:31 says:
“God exalted [Jesus] at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.”
Jesus’ birth in that lowly manger was God’s star on his shining tree. God stood back and said, “See what I’ve given you. It’s more beautiful than anything in creation. Enjoy. My gift is more special than you know. This beautiful babe will grow and mature into salvation for all mankind.”
That’s a Christmas gift we can all enjoy with every part of our being.
Christ is our gift, and we open it anew when we honor him as our Savior and Lord.
