Portable music is a treat we’ve come to enjoy.
We pack our player in our pocket, and we can listen wherever we go.
Years back, we carried a radio. If we bumped the dial, we had to readjust it to find our station once again.
Then came portable tape players. We could pop in our tape, plug in our headphones, and the music was ours. The best ones even allowed us to fast forward to our favorite songs.
We soon moved to CD players we could attach to our belt. Skip protection kept our music flawless and pure.
Then the world changed. The portable music player allowed us to add our own songs, even to shuffle the order of the music. Best of all, it fit in our pocket, and we could listen anywhere.
When music styles changed, our boy band went out of favor, or we matured into real music, we could wipe our music player’s memory and build a fresh playlist.
Mark 1:15 says that’s how it works when we come to Christ.
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Our old life says a good time is at the bar. We aren’t living until we’ve had a couple of cold ones and a dance or two.
God’s playlist says the Word is our standard of excellence. Everything else must be wiped from our lives so we can become like Christ.
We can’t hold on to what we once were when we come to Jesus. Our old habits, friends, and goals must be renewed in Christ.
We build a new playlist when we become a Christian, and we make sure God is in every song.
