Broken Jar of Clay

On Quora.com, a man posted his mother’s story. She faced every obstacle one can imagine, from a father who refused to educate her, to bad vision in one eye. At one point her father burned a year’s worth of accumulated school reports, and to receive credit for the class, she had to recreate them in one night by the light of an oil lamp. Her father tried to break her, and she refused to crumble under his assault.

Against all odds, she graduated high school with perfect scores and honors in math, physics, and biology. She retired at 62 as the head of the Radiology Department at an acclaimed hospital.

She turned a life that could have been a disaster into one of unmitigated success.

Google the story of Nick Vujicic. He was born with no legs and no arms, yet he lives a successful life with his wife and child.

Stephen Hawkins continued to use his mind even as his body fell apart around him.

Romans 3:23 tells us that we are already broken before we get out of the gates.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

We can stay up all night trying to put our lives back together, but there is no hope for us without the hand of God. The good news is that we don’t have to go it alone.

Jeremiah 33:8 lets us know God has his eraser ready.

“I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me.”

The world will try to break us, and it is the Lord that puts us back together again. Whatever our physical circumstances, when we turn to God, he lifts us up and repairs the damage, and we become perfect in him.

How does God’s repair job begin? Look at Romans 5:8 for the answer.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

He came to put our broken jar of clay back together once again.

God offers us complete renewal for our souls, if we only turn our eyes to him.
