Ever opened an old container of oil to bake a cake?
Rancid oil is never good. It smells bad, it will stink up your kitchen, and to eat the cake?
Nah! Toss it in the trash!
We’re like that as Christians. If we are filled with the spirit of God, and we never do anything with it, we begin to sour on the inside.
Get rancid.
We need to be freshened up by God. Read about it in Ezekiel 36:26:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
If we want to refresh the oil in our pantry, we simply stop by the store and pick up a new jar.
If we want to refresh our heart, that takes something entirely different. Here’s three things we can do to refresh the spirit of God within us.
Refreshing No. 1:
Get into the Word. Read the Bible. Study it. Memorize it. Let it become part of you.
Refreshing No. 2:
Spend time on your knees. Talk to God. Wait on him. Let him speak back to you.
Refreshing No. 3:
Spend time with people who are also invested in Jesus. Discuss the things of God. Let Christ become central to everything you do.
So, there. All the old oil is tossed out, and you can begin baking now. Fresh cake, fresh heart, fresh walk with Jesus.
Our life renewed! What a wonderful aroma from us to the world!
