The movies portray happy Christmas scenes.
Snow falls, children make snow angels, and we sing carols around the fire.
Advertisers want us to picture the joy their products will provide when given as Christmas gifts.
A car bedecked with a giant ribbon, that new computer, or a simple cup of coffee steaming against a Christmassy backdrop.
The reality is that Christmas can be stressful. Family flareups, too many visitors, and worrying about paying the bills can pummel our joy.
The Bible gives us 4 Reasons to Be Happy at Christmas.
Proverbs 17:22 says it will cure our ills.
“A joyful heart is good medicine …”
James 1:17 assures us we will receive the gift of happiness.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
Isaiah 11:1 tells us we are the fruit of Christ’s labors.
“There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.”
John 1:5 says we have received new life through the Son of God.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Robert Flatt is known for his inspirational quotes. Here’s a favorite:
“The giving of gifts is not something man invented. God started the giving spree when He gave a gift beyond words, the unspeakable gift of His Son.”
We can choose to let our holiday season be governed by forces outside our control, or we can choose to enjoy a happy Christmas. God started the gifts. Let’s continue the tradition.
When we share our happiness, we’ll have more left over than we started with.
