A Christian Pep Talk

Strike out on a mountain trail.

You, your buddies (or girlfriends), anyone you wish. Link arms or go single file, just do it.

Here’s the thing. You will find the mountain trail tough going at times. The sun will grow hot, the trail steep, and you may even be tempted to turn around.

1  Thessalonians 5:14 says:

“And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.”

This is a verse for spiritual encouragement, but it works as well for our mountain trail.

If someone’s not focused on the trail, wag your finger and say, “Get with it, sis!”

The drop off the side … too much? Offer an arm and say, “You can do it.”

Legs giving out? Energy gone? Some of our companions may need our shoulder past the steepest parts.

Here’s how to apply this to our Christian walk:

Application No. 1:

If someone isn’t showing up for church, offer to stop by and give them a ride. You’ll be surprised how often they’ll begin to show up.

Application No. 2:

Form a prayer chain. Email prayers to each other. Share stories of how God is answering those prayers.

Application No. 3:

Start a Bible study. Call it whatever you want. Pool and Bible school. A night with pizza and Jesus. A Bible barbecue. Make it more than a study discussion, and you’ll get lots of takers.

The biggest factor to make these work:

“Be patient with them all.”

We get to heaven together. We can’t afford to leave anyone behind.
