We know forgiveness is difficult.
That’s not what this is about. We’re moving past that. We’re accepting that we’ve already decided to forgive the bad guy, the one who’s done us wrong, who’s stepped on our toes and caused us pain.
We’re starting off our forgiveness in the book of Mark.
Mark 11:24-26 tells us:
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Our 1st Revelation of Forgiveness reveals that unforgiven wrongs others have done to us will get in the way of God forgiving our sins.
Ouch, and ouch, again. That makes forgiving others a vital part of our relationship with the Father.
Next we’re moving to forgiveness in the book of Matthew.
Matthew 6:14 tells us:
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
Our 2nd Revelation of Forgiveness says we commit God to our cause when we offer forgiveness to those who have wronged us.
God becomes our ally. He teams up with us. He gets on our side.
Now let’s look at forgiveness in the book of Romans.
Romans 12:20 tells us:
“… If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
Our 3rd Revelation of Forgiveness takes us to a new level. We must do good things for the person we have forgiven.
That’s right, even if we don’t like them. Forgiving is the first step. We must honor them, also.
Forgiveness is a choice. It’s easier when Jesus walks at our side.
