Frictionless Fit

English Audio Version

Friction is important in our everyday lives.

Without it, our cars won’t go where we aim them. Think about icy winter days, when we see images on our televisions of the cars sliding around like they’re in a comic strip.

How about putting on a cap? Without friction, it would come off in the lightest breeze. As would our socks, pants, and our jewelry.

We would need things bolted on to keep them secure, but then, how does the bolt stay tight without friction?

Yet, we try to remove friction in some circumstances. Nonstick cookware. We don’t want friction holding our food inside. We might have to scrub it off.

Inside motors of all sorts, we add oil, so the parts slide smoothly. We want them to be friction-free.

How does this work in our relationships with those around us?

Proverbs 15:1 says:

“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Our harsh words are like sandpaper, creating the heat of anger and not allowing the wrongs done unto us to slip away unnoticed.

When we speak softly to those who berate and antagonize us, we become the nonstick surface and the frictionless fit that make our relationships operate smoothly.

We can be better through the power of Christ.

Our anger may have just cause, but our soft answer smooths the situation and lets Jesus be in control.

Excerpt of the Day

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
