Love in the 21st century is a multi-faceted emotion.
That’s not a good thing. After all, we love pizza, our neighbor’s new car, and last night’s movie on the television.
What does that say about our love for our spouse? Or our children? Do we love them like pizza and our TV show?
Of course not. That would be silly. Love has come to mean a degree of like, and we need new words to express our truest emotions.
Let’s look at seven new ways to say we love completely and unconditionally. Let’s see how we can show our love to the deepest degree.
1 Corinthians 16:14 says ACTION is the first degree of love. When we show our love is when we prove our feelings.
“Let all that you do be done in love.”
1 John 4:8 says love is our PROOF of our faith in Christ. When we become his follower, our belief in him will be revealed though our love.
“Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
Colossians 3:14 touts COOPERATION as vital to love. Arguing and bickering is a sign that love has failed.
“And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
Matthew 22:39 says KINDNESS is proof of our love. We treat those we love as well as we treat ourselves.
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
1 Peter 4:8 paints FORGIVENESS on every action of love. We cannot love if we continue to hold grudges.
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”
Luke 6:35 tells us our love must be UNCONDITIONAL. We can’t expect anything back. We give away our love because we can.
“But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.”
John 13:35 shows us that our love must be VISIBLE. When we display our love in an open and public manner, the world will see and know we are of Christ.
“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Love should be a multifaceted thing, if we’re living the love of Christ. It should infiltrate every facet of our lives, and everyone around us should be able to see it acted out through what we say and do.
Love can’t hide itself, for it flows from God and out through us.
