It’s frustrating when things don’t come to us like we want.
Some people say it’s all in the timing, that things come to us when they should. But what good is a new house when the kids are already grown? What point is there if we can afford to travel the world only after our bodies are worn out? How does it help us if our investments mature as we grow feeble with age? There would be no point in winning the lottery just before we die.
Where is fairness in the world?
Let’s look at it a different way: Maybe we already have what we should want.
John 1:1 tells us we have the greatest gift already with us.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Genesis 1:27 says we’ve been given companions to walk at our side.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
James 1:27 offers us opportunity for personal fulfillment.
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
Malachi 3:10 lets us know we have a Father in heaven we can trust.
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”
Hebrews 8:1 is our assurance of a Savior who dwells on high who speaks for us.
“Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven.”
Where is fairness in the world? We find it in the cross, in salvation, and in our Christian walk. We find fairness in a Savior who died for us, that we might have the opportunity to live for him. It’s already ours, and we don’t have to search or wait for it.
When we quit worrying about ourselves, we’ll find our satisfaction in what we can do for others.
