Through Prayer and Faith

“You’ve got this!”

Oh, yeah, we think. We’ve got this, right. Creditors are on the phone, my spouse sleeps in the spare room, and my bank account? What bank account? It’s like a black hole that eats my paycheck each week.

I don’t “have” this. It’s a struggle just to step outside the door each day.

Okay, then. Forget the fluff. Let’s jump into today’s verse.

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) is the backbone of biblical encouragement:

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

To paint this on the tarmac, let’s break it down.

The verse starts with, “But those who hope in the Lord …”

You read that right. Hope. Yes, hope. Our first step in “getting this” is to exercise hope.

Where? In the Lord.

What do we receive when we choose to hope in God? Let’s look back at our verse.

1. We will renew our strength. Be refreshed. Find extra energy. Have courage. Be filled with vitality once again.

2. We will soar on wings like eagles. Fly above the crowd. Be able to see the obstacles in our way and dismiss them like they aren’t even there.

3. We will run and not grow weary. Go the distance. Perform any deed. Raise our grandchild, work the extra hours, face the people who are thorns in our side. Yeah, all that.

4. We will walk and not feel faint. Nourishment, both spiritual and in the natural, will be our companion. We will be mentally refreshed and able to deal with any disruption.

Now let’s look at how we find our hope in the turmoil of our troubles.

Through prayer and faith. We find time to search out God, talk to him, and give him time to respond to us. And for that pesky faith thing, it only takes a mustard seed of faith to one day grow into a towering tree of confidence in our Lord’s ability to sustain us in every situation.

Prayer and faith. You’ve got this. I know you do, and deep inside, so do you.

Get started today.
