We recognize the title of this article. It comes from The Lord’s Prayer, though it’s a title we’ve given it, not one from the Bible.
Yet, the words of the Master sum up much of the mission of the Master.
Let’s break it down:
“This, then, is how you should pray:”
Christ is our example. We must model ourselves after him, in prayer, in action, and in love.
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”
We must reverence God. His very name is to be spoken carefully.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, an earth as it is in heaven.”
The kingdom of the Father on the earth is established through following him. His will is established in his Word, the Bible.
“Give us today our daily bread.”
We are to look to God for our needs. He will provide.
“Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.”
Forgiveness must flow from us before it is given us. Enough said on that.
“And lead us not into temptation.”
Righteousness is a path we choose to follow. Wrongdoing is the same.
“But deliver us from the evil one.”
We will stumble. We can’t avoid all the stones beneath our feet. However, we have a rescuer. His name is Jesus.
When we walk with Jesus, we are in tune with his nature. We become aligned with his lifestyle and his focus on righteous living.
Let’s step up today. Christ is our example, and we must strive to live like him.
