What do yea and amen mean? We need to know that to get started.
Let’s look at yea first.
Merriam-Webster tells us it’s an expression of agreement, but more than that, it suggests there’s more coming.
When we call out yea, we’re saying, Our answer’s here, and there’s more on the way.
Whoop! Whoop! Let’s get ready to release our seat belts and hit the roof.
Now let’s look at amen.
Webster’s says amen comes from the ancient Hebrew (spelled the same) and says, Done! And just the way we asked!
When we say amen, we’re proclaiming our faith in the completed and excellent work of the Lord God Almighty!
That’s a big deal! Our prayers are answered as soon as we wrap up our words.
Here’s God’s affirmation of his prayer promise in Jeremiah 29:12:
“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.”
This verse means exactly what it says. Let’s spell it out for easy reference:
1. We recognize our need for God’s help.
2. We fall to our knees in prayer.
3. He answers and meets our need.
How exciting is that? This exciting promise is found in God’s Word, yea and amen!
Our trust in God is the first step in our answered prayer.
