Our Leadership Prayer

It’s easy to blame our country’s leaders for the troubles in our land.

Our governors are the same. And then there’s our county commissioners and our city mayors. Even our boss, when she’s the one who makes our day miserable with her heavy-handed rules and arbitrary regulations.

Scroll through any Twitter feed, Facebook wall, or Newsdesk list of attention-worthy items. It will be chock full of criticism of those in authority over us.

God says we need to think differently.

Let’s look at four reasons to keep our leaders in constant prayer found in 1 Timothy 2:1-4.

Leadership Prayer Motivation Number 1:

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions…”

We can’t pick and choose who we will pray for. They’ve all got to be included, from the ones we like and admire to the ones we don’t.

Leadership Prayer Motivation Number 2:

“That we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”

Our spiritual peace is dependent on those we hold up in prayer. We can’t be godly and dignified, and a true testament to the love of Christ, if we refuse to pray for those in high positions.

Leadership Prayer Motivation Number 3:

“This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior…”

If we seek the approval of God, this is a sure-fire fit for his satisfaction in us. When our prayers for our leaders rise before him, he will find pleasure in us.

Leadership Prayer Motivation Number 4:

“Who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Here’s the crux of what it’s all about. God wants everyone (read that every single one) to come to Christ, to find salvation, and to live a pure, holy existence before him.

When our country’s leaders cry, “It’s not my fault,” they may be misguided. Our trouble might indeed be their fault. That’s more reason to pray for them, that they might come to understand the truth of the cross.

Those we hold up in prayer are God’s focus for his mighty redemptive power.

Excerpt of the Day

A promise to the devil can be laughed off when we have Jesus standing at our side. A promise from the devil is worthless, and should be laughed off even faster.
