Being Thirsty for God

Being thirsty is like having a special glass and not putting anything in it.

No matter how thirsty we are, what’s in our glass will never satisfy our needs. We must put something in it to get something out, or it’s just an object that people can admire but that does no one any good.

Saying we’re a Christian, and that we have a Bible and plan on making Heaven our home, is like holding our pretty glass up for the world to admire. No matter how beautiful it is, until we fill it up with God, the world’s thirst will never be quenched.

Matthew 7:21 gives us our Lord’s words:

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”

We must have a personal relationship with God and do what he wants us to do. Like our relationship with our special glass, we must put something into it to get something out of it. When we accept Christ as our personal savior, we become a Christian. We can’t stop there, though. We must put something into being a Christian and having a relationship with God if we expect to receive the benefits of a relationship with him and his Son, Jesus.

The Scriptures say we must do the will of the Father in Heaven. The way to find his will is to read and study his Word. In it we can find the will of God and the way we should live our lives.

We can invest in a secure future (and satisfy our spiritual thirst) by praying and doing the things that please God.

We already know the end of the story. Jesus rules, and the devil drools.
