An Overflowing of Good

Skinning a penny is a euphemism for having a budget so tight there is no room for anything extra.

Not ice cream, not new socks, not even treats for the dog.

A character from an award-winning 1989 movie says she was so poor growing up, she couldn’t keep a white cat she found because they couldn’t afford to feed it. Yet, in the movie she lived in one of the city’s best houses with a maid and a chauffeur.

She had become wealthy, but in her mind, she’d never left poor behind.

Is that us as Christians? Here’s what Philippians 4:19 has to say:

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

Feel free to interpret that as spiritual needs. Or maybe you feel this covers emotional or relationship needs, also.

Sure, all of that.

Still, read these three words: all your needs. We’re not writing anything into this, just what’s in the verse.

So, take it at face value and run with it. Ice cream, new socks, treats for the dog. Even a white cat.

What do you need? That’s what this verse assures us God will supply. And don’t worry that there’s not enough. God has more than enough to go around.

When we trust in God, our supply chain is guaranteed.
