Putting Money into the Church

Investment in the church is a very good idea. Our money, our time, and our interest can be funneled into the church, and the paybacks are well worth our investment.

We can build quite an edifice, complete with stained-glass windows and velvet-covered pews, a house of worship that will astound the world with its beauty and fine finishes.

Is that the church God speaks about in his Word? Let’s see what he has to say from across the New Testament.

Ephesians 2:20-22 reveals a dynamic, growing church:

“[The church is] built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”

Matthew 16:18 says the church is strengthened by the faith of even one man:

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Acts 20:28 tells us the church is built with the blood of Jesus:

“Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.”

Hebrews 10:24-25 gives us our construction techniques for assembling a strong and lasting church:

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Colossians 3:16 reminds us to include praise to God in the construction of our magnificent edifice.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

What church are we building with our money, our time, and our interest? The one the world will appreciate, or the one God will bless as true and faithful to his Word?

Investing our money and our time in our Christian brothers is investing wisely in the Church of the King of kings.
