Do it all NOW!
That’s what we sometimes feel. Get the education, marriage, house and children NOW.
We can’t afford to wait. We must start our retirement account at 21, be grandparents by 38, and traveling the world by 55. Early retirement, here we come!
Except that we’re exhausted. Just let us rest. That’s all we ask.
God agrees. Not everything has to happen NOW.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT tells us:
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under Heaven.”
For some of us, it’s clearer in the NIV version:
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
A season is a specific period of time.
For farmers, there are four of them: spring to plant, summer to mature, fall to harvest, and winter to rest and renew.
Life is the same. Even our life in Christ. We don’t have to become Master Christians out to Win the World in the first week of our walk with the Lord.
“There is a time for everything.” First, we accept Christ. Then we study and learn to be like him. We adapt our lifestyle. We practice love toward all people. Then God moves us into deeper levels of trust in him.
We live now. In the moment. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. We raise our children, even drive a minivan instead of a sports car or a truck … why? Because there is a time for everything.
Search out God’s schedule for YOUR life. He has one. You’ll find it in the Word, in Prayer, and in conversation with the Saints of God.
We can make plans, but God is the one who determines our footsteps. It’s up to us to place our trust in him.
