The Open Book of Us

How are you doing?

What’s going on in your life?

How honest do you feel like being? Meaning … when you are asked these questions, do you reach deep inside and pull out the real you, or do you present the image you want others to have of you?

God says there’s no such waffling with him. He knows us inside and out. We can say one thing, but he knows the real us, the one deep inside, and here’s what he has to say to us:

“Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.” (Psalm 1:5)

Ah, no big deal, we say. We already knew that, and it doesn’t apply to us … then the next verse hits us.

“For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” (Psalm 1:6)

Here’s the skinny on these verses: When we live right before God, he knows. He sees us inside, like an X-ray on steroids. Every thought, every desire, every intention. All of it. We are transparent to him.

If we are righteous, we shall stand before him with our shoulders back and pride in our countenance. If we are not righteous … well, verse 6 sums up our situation: “The ungodly shall perish.”

Our lesson from this? Do the right thing. Live the right way. Search out the standards of God and imprint them on our daily actions, thoughts, desires, and intentions. All of it. And remember, we are transparent to him.

Now, back to the beginning. How are you doing, and answer honestly, because God knows the real you.
