As the weather changes from summer to winter, the dry air from the poles begins to sweep down over the humid air from the Equator. This abrupt meeting of dry versus moist condenses the water vapor in the air, giving us foggy weather.
The fog can be a benefit to us. It removes those things that are distant, and it forces us to see what is right in front of our face. God wants that for us. His wish is that we quit looking down the road, and that we take time to see the blessings he has for us today.
Let’s look at our FOG God:
F – He gives himself to us as our FRIEND.
John 15:14 falls in the midst of a passage where Jesus gives multiple examples to show his connection with the disciples. All of them say one thing: If we follow him, we can count Jesus as our FRIEND.
O – He ORDERS our steps in the way that we should go.
Psalm 37:23 tells us how to ensure that God ORDERS our every step. All we have to do is delight in him. Then, even if we stumble, we will stumble into God’s outstretched hand, and he will put us back on our feet once again.
G – He sent the GOSPEL that we might live in him.
We might wish for homes and cars, for that special spouse, or for the chance to travel the world. However, Ephesians 1:13 makes it clear that in the GOSPEL God gave us something much greater. He marked us with a seal so that we would know his salvation is ours.
Sometimes we can’t see the trees for the forest. God’s blessings are all around us, and we simply need the chance to recognize them for what they are.
