Louisiana is synonymous with offshore storms that blow in bringing rain and damaging winds.
Hurricane Ida swept across the state from the Gulf of Mexico in August of 2021. Neighborhoods were underwater. Power was off for millions. That meant humidity, no air conditioning in the summer heat, and no means to prepare or store food.
The 150 MPH winds and the aftermath of devastation were scary for those who couldn’t evacuate.
One survivor, Jorge, said, “Just a little bit helps,” when he received food from a distribution center run by a group called International Relief Teams.
As a Christian, what’s the “little bit” of help you can offer to those around you?
A ride to church? Mow the lawn? An offer to babysit?
Romans 8:28 is a good place to start.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”
Do you love God? Are you willing to work to bring about His good to those around you? Do you feel called according to His purpose?
Sometimes we want this verse to be our consolation in times of stress. Other times, we need to be the consolation to others in times of their stress.
Look for people who need your help. Hold out your hand. Offer some money, some time. As Jorge said, “Just a little bit helps.”
Ask God what little bit you can do for him. Then follow through.
