Some people tout God as a source of good things – and only good things.
After all, he’s all about love, so how could he be any other way? If bad things happen to us, we can only blame the Angel of Light, also known as Lucifer or Satan.
That red light, when you’re late for work? The work of the devil.
Getting sick on your vacation? It’s the hand of Satan ruining your good time.
God would never bring us problems or slap our hands. That’s not his style.
Look at the story of Job in the Bible. That’s your proof. Lucifer did all the dirty work. God’s hands were clean.
Yet, yet. God’s Word says trouble can and should come from God.
What?!? Trouble should come from God? How can you say that?
I don’t. The Bible does. Read it in Hebrews 12:6-7.
“For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives. It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?”
If we’re not enduring trouble from God, we aren’t walking in his will. That’s scripture, not a teaser to get you to read this teaching.
It’s like our earthly fathers. If they don’t correct their children – send them to the corner, take away their phone, refuse to let them attend the party – they will release spoiled and entitled brats onto the world.
God is the source of all that’s good in the world. He’s also the source of our correction as Christians. That’s how we mature in our walk with him.
That’s how we grow to become more like Jesus.
Our lessons from God are there for our good, for he loves his children.
