What does it mean to be a “main man” in today’s world?
What credentials do we need to flash, degrees to display, or organizations to join?
A church deacon, will that do it? We can gather with the other leaders of the church and make the decisions that determine the body’s success (or sometimes failure).
Or maybe choir leader fits the bill. We are at center stage, orchestrating the mood of the service, from the introductory chorus to the rousing finale as the attendees exit the door.
Have you considered the lowly Sunday school teacher? They mold our children’s minds, teaching them exactly what the Christian experience is all about. (Not so lowly after all.)
Really, none of these fit the bill.
“What!?!” Your amazement bleeds down your face. “These are the most important people in the church.”
Let’s see what John 3:16 has to say.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Read it like it says it. God gave his only Son … his only Son. How many of us would do that? And why? For God’s benefit? Nope. For the benefit of his Son? Not even warm.
Our Master’s sacrifice was for the church deacon, the choir leader, and the (not so) lowly Sunday school teacher.
Jesus came to earth for the unbeliever, the believer, the in-between, and anyone else who walks the world.
So, who’s the main man? Who’s got it going on? Who’s the one we should cheer?
Jesus, Jesus, you’re our man. You can save us if anyone can.
Seriously, Jesus is the center of everything. He came, not because he had to but because he wanted to. He loved us, and in exchange, he died for us.
Hats off to Jesus. He’s the best there is.
