Cake is a sweet lover’s treat.
Store-bought, homemade, or from a packaged mix, we enjoy every bite. There’s only one way to make it better: Have it prepared by someone who loves us. Grandma, perhaps, or a favorite sister. Even our children, at two or twenty, can make our cake special, simply because it’s made with love.
That’s us. We are that cake. We are a special creation, designed by God, fashioned in his image, and better than we should be, simply because we were created in love.
Ephesians 2:10 reveals God’s plan for those who follow him:
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Four facts jump out of this verse.
- We are handcrafted by God. He personally took us and formed us as we are.
- Our refining comes through Christ, so that we may perform good works in his name.
- God prepared a plan for us from the beginning. Nothing in our lives is a surprise to him.
- When we allow God to lead us down his chosen path, he rejoices in what we have become.
We are the treat that God especially enjoys. He has created us by his own hand, and his love is evident in every part of who we are. Let’s worship him. He deserves our praise.
God has no doubts we will turn out all right. He planned it from the beginning.
