Retirement advisors are very clear what our goals should be: Amass enough funds so that we can live comfortably and well in our golden years.
Educators have an equally strong opinion: Parental involvement is our priority, if we want to meet our children’s needs and encourage them to become productive adults.
Relationship counselors tout date nights and putting our partner above our job and children.
Car manufacturers say oil changes are a must-do.
Economic experts insist investment is the way.
Nutritionists want us to cut every bad thing from our diet.
We become driven to perfection until our head spins and we want to give up. What are we to do?
Colossians 3:23 gives us our true purpose:
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
That clarifies everything. We can look at each of the world’s demands and ask ourselves if it benefits the work of the Lord or our personal position and lifestyle.
Then we need to give it our best and move on from there. Confusion can’t be part of the picture. Our Christian walk must be about Jesus and our relationship with him, not about our comfort and future well-being.
Each step we take must be toward Jesus and in no other direction.
