Cool can mean several things.
If it’s summer, we want to cool down. Disperse the heat. Chill. Make ourselves comfortable.
It’s a very good thing.
Socially, we want to be cool, also. Accepted. Part of the crowd. The in thing.
How do we get cool with God?
Psalm 37:4 says to find our happiness in him:
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:11 tosses arrogance out the window:
“But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.”
Zephaniah 3:17 reminds us that all we have comes by him and through him:
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
Psalm 43:3-5 places our total trust in the Father:
“Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”
Psalm 1:2 prompts us that our attachment to God can’t be a casual thing:
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
Psalm 18:19 refreshes God’s total commitment to his children:
“He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.”
We become cool with God when we do these six things:
1. Look to him for our happiness.
2. Toss out our pride in ourselves.
3. Look to him as our source of all things.
4. Trust him implicitly.
5. Become serious with God.
6. Allow him to become serious with us.
Are we cool with that? God is. He loves us, immensely. As the Psalmist said, “He rescued me, because he delighted in me.”
God delights in us. He wants us to delight in him.
